Thanks to you Flora Fans, Lumina Publications' charity donations have totalled £5,000 this year! We’ve chosen charities that relate to Flora’s books - here's a bit more information about them.

THE DANIEL SPARGO MABBS FOUNDATION is a drugs education charity. We chose this charity because of the drug abuse backstory in Summer at Tillingford Hall and Christmas at Tillingford Hall, in particular, the bit where some young girls accidentally find a stash of drugs but know what they are and how to stay safe because they’ve been educated about them. DSMF received £2,000.

STRENGTH AND LEARNING THROUGH HORSES applied to our charity partnership scheme and we felt that their combination of outdoor activities and providing therapy for young people through animals resonated really well with the Tillingford Hall stories, as well as the horse-riding themes in A Little Treat. We have donated £1,000 to their core funds.

THE FINAL STRAW FOUNDATION also applied. They are a Hampshire-based charity which aims to reduce marine pollution through hands-on community clean-ups, changing the way local businesses operate and education. The £1,000 donation will enable around a hundred inner city children, many of whom wouldn’t otherwise get to spend a day on a beach, to take part in clean-up operations.

Lastly, SAMARITANS. This very well-known national charity works to prevent suicide through offering listening services and education. Sahara and Sebastian’s backstory of bereavement through suicide, something which has also touched Flora’s family in real life, inspired this donation. The £1,000 donation could fund over 260 potentially life-saving calls.

If you’re going through a tough time, you can call Samaritans free, day or night, on 116 123.

We will be posting more information on each charity over the coming weeks.

Once again, thank you for your support of Flora’s writing which has enabled these donations.
